Why Should You Get An Annual Dental Check-Up?

At Christie Dental Kilkenny we highly recommend our patients have a full dental examination or check-up at least once a year. This allows us, as your dentist, to monitor your oral and dental health on an ongoing basis and enables early detection of the onset of any issues needing attention. A treatment plan can be formulated to tackle any issues found.

Most people like the idea of any type of dental check-up, because they understand that early detection makes treatment easier and less expensive. Therefore scheduling regular check-up appointments is critical to the overall maintenance of your oral health. Having an annual appointment with your dentist can, in fact, save you money in the long term by preventing the need for more expensive procedures to tackle more serious or emergency dental issues.

Full Dental Examination - What We Do

Examination of Teeth
The dentist will carry out an individual examination of each of your teeth.

Examination of Fillings & Crowns
The dentist will perform a thorough examination to assess the integrity of any existing fillings and crowns

Inspection of Gums
The dentist will inspect and assess the current health of your gums looking for any early or advanced presence of gum disease symptoms or other prevailing issues.

Jaw and Bite Alignment
This is a specialist area that Dr. Philip Christie has expertise in it. He will examine your upper and lower jaw alignment and advise on any issues in relation to your bite that needs to be corrected. Separate appointments will be arranged as needed to correct your bite alignment.

Our Dentist Recommendations

If you have a degree of existing build-up of plaque or tartar, the dentist may need you to schedule a scale and polish process before a complete dental examination can be performed. It is common for these types of build-ups to obstruct the dental examination process. In some cases, the dentist may recommend performing an x-ray to get a better picture of your overall dental health. Should dental treatment be required following your dental examination, the dentist will formulate and create a personal treatment plan for you.
